FRANCES PALEY

"My photographs are taken with traditional film (analog process). The images are unaltered and intact. There is no layering or montage. All formatting and composition is done through the camera lens. The sole change is with reference to color, which I do on a computer. This allows me to enrich and deepen the emotional impact of the images. For me, these images symbolize an affirmation of life through the poignancy of memory and love. They are meant to be compassionate and reassuring in that they mirror our humanity by allowing us to peek into our wistful desires to capture the ephemeral and transcend time.

These are digital pigment prints made on an Iris printer. This process produces state of the art archival prints. The Iris sprays 4,000,000 droplets of ink per second at a speed of 85 miles per hour toward a large drum rotating at 12 feet per second. The droplets are given an electrical charge to determine which reach the paper and which are deflected. This produces a continuous tone with a resolution of 1800 dots per inch. Hahnemuhle paper from Germany and Lyson inks (water based dyes) are used. The research on the paper and pigment indicates that if the color prints were exposed to 450 lux light for 12 hours each day it would take 35 – 45 years before noticeable fading would occur. There is no UV protection needed for framing."

Images are available in a limited edition of 15 in sizes of approximately
13” x 20”, 20” x 30” and 35” x 47”.
